Sylvan Island Stampede April 14, 2013

FORC is proud to present the 9th annual Sylvan Island Stampede! This is the first race of the season for both the Illinois Homegrown Race Series and the Iowa Mountain Bike Championship Series. Changes from last year include the addition of a Juniors class and the discontinuation of the Singlespeed class.

Registration:
Preregister online and pay only $25! Not only do you save $5 from race day but you also make things much smoother for our registration volunteers. Race day registrants will pay $30 and may have to wait in line at peak registration times. On race day, registration opens at 7:00 am and closes 30 minutes before each race begins. Online registration closes Friday April 12th at 4:00 PM CST.

Swag:
The first 200 registered participants will receive a high quality Dri-Fit shirt with event graphics on the front and sponsor logos on the back. Other participants will receive a pair of custom FORC cycling socks. We do our best to meet size demands but we cannot guarantee that your size will be available.

Race Course:
The trails of Sylvan Island are very flat but offer many technical features unique to an abandoned industrial complex. Expect a variety of trail surfaces such as sand, brick, concrete, dirt, and rock. Trail flow ranges from tight and twisty singletrack to doubletrack straightaways with plenty of passing room.

What is the Maverick class?
The Maverick class was created to ease starting congestion on the small island and bridge the gap between Novice and Sport for those wanting a more technical course with a shorter overall distance. However, this class does NOT award series points and those with eyes on a championship probably want to stick with the Novice or Sport classes.

Kids Race
A kids race will be held between the Fatbike and Sport divisions around noon. The course will be one 0.25 mile loop of nontechnical doubletrack trail on the east side of the island (see course map for route). All kids 9 and under are encouraged to participate and will receive a water bottle (limit 50), subway gift certificate, and snacks. There are no restrictions on bike type and registration is not required for participation.

Weather:
This is a rain or shine event. Delays or cancellations will only occur in the event of severe weather.

Volunteers:
