Starting major clean up of the trails at Dorrance this Sunday. Meet in the inner parking lot at 8:00 am.
Work Scope:
Clearing trails of sticks and small branches. Cutting out downed trees/branches with chainsaws. Fixing any trail damage.
Tools Needed:
Rakes, handsaws, loppers.
We'll have a few club tools to loan out if you don't have your own. I'll also have a backpack blower to help with clearing the small stuff.
Note About Chainsaws:
If you bring a chainsaw, you must also have protective chaps and a sawyers helmet (park policy). Clearing storm damaged trees/branches is the most dangerous type of chainsaw operation and not something for the inexperienced.
If you can help clear sticks and smaller branches during the week, post here which sections you have finished so we don't waste time walking them again on Sunday. Also post your volunteer hours (park likes us to keep track).
Be extremely careful while on the trails doing cleanup during the next few days. There are many large branches caught in the canopy and they will continue to fall for some time. Be aware what is above you while walking and especially while working in one area for an extended period of time. Trails will remain closed until we can survey damage and make them safe.
