Illiniwek Storm Cleanup - Thursday 8/13 @ 530pm
Big thanks to the crew of trail runners who were out today cleaning up the trails at Illiniwek! FYI, there's a running race at Illiniwek on Saturday and we're going to try to get the big trees cleared and trails repaired before that.
Meeting Thursday evening at 5:30pm in the main trailhead parking lot (go left at the Y after the main entrance off IL-84).
Work Scope:
Cutting out downed trees/branches with chainsaws. Rerouting a section of trail around an uprooted tree.
Tools Needed:
Rakes, handsaws, loppers, flat shovels, rogue hoes.
We'll have a few club tools to loan out if you don't have your own. I'll also have a backpack blower to help with clearing the small stuff.
Note About Chainsaws:
If you bring a chainsaw, you must also have protective chaps and a sawyers helmet (park policy). Clearing storm damaged trees/branches is the most dangerous type of chainsaw operation and not something for the inexperienced.
