    Default Illiniwek - Tuesday 4/17 @ 5pm

We had a bunch of rock delivered last week and the plan is to move it to two locations and start building stone retaining walls. These will replace rotting log walls installed +6 years ago. We'll be meeting in the upper south loop near the salt dome (directions here) at 10am on Sunday 5pm on Tuesday 4/17. Bring a wheelbarrow if you have one and a good pair of gloves. I'll have enough digging tools to cover 6 people. A truck or small utility trailer would make quick work of moving the rocks a majority of the distance needed.

Let me know if you can make it.

I have a wheelbarrow that I could bring and some digging tools. I also have a 4-wheel drive lawn mower and lawn trailer that we could use for moving the rocks. Would that work?

For one location the lawn tractor/trailer combo would probably be perfect since there is doubletrack access. What is the trailer capacity? We would still need a road-going vehicle to get rock to the other site. The rock pile is in the upper south loop parking lot and we also need to move rock down to the entrance of the South Climb which is easiest by road.

I would have to double check, but I think the lawn trailer is 10 cubic feet. I would bring the mower and lawn trailer on a utility trailer with a 6.5'x12' deck on it that we could potentially use to move rock. I would just need to fabricate some sides to contain the rock. I can try to get the sides made this weekend, but I can't guarantee anything. Depending on how much rock we are moving, I might also want to hook the trailer up to someone else's vehicle that has more towing capacity. The rock might be a little too heavy for my Equinox; towing the mower is already pushing it.

Thanks, that would be great! Rock is going to run +130lbs per cu.ft. so will have to keep batches small to prevent overloading. Let me know if you don't get trailer sides made, I probably have some lumber that would work temporarily.

Going to have to postpone the work day due to rain. Will try for later in the week if the weather is good.

I can be there. I got sides on my trailer so we can use that to move rock.
