    Default Monthly Club Trail Day

A few years ago, we started a run of all kinds of cool with the development of the Sunderbruch trail system. Do a little trail work on the weekends, night rides during the week (was late summer/early fall, about this time of year), followed by some sweet barley fuel... good times. I'm thinking we oughta be able to pull out the stops again with Illiniwek and cover a couple of bases: get a larger club group building trails (it's good to earn-your-dirt), complete the 4th trail system in the QC area, and roll strong into the off-season for a good start for a full 2011 with the MWMBF.

Between untimely rains (which has been pretty much all of them) and races or other events, we haven't been able to get a monthly trail day in since spring. Since our standing trail day is the Sunday following a meeting, let's have a trail day at Illiniwek this week. A good group of a dozen or so should probably be able to complete the laid out loop and get us set up for a fall HFDB TT and some sweet night rides.

    What: Trail Day
Where: Illiniwek Park (JB/Drew to give detail on start location)
    When: 9:00 am Sunday, 19Sept
Why: Cause we're FORC. We get it done.

    Give a holla!
    Rg.

    Edit: Changed to correct date.

Here is the plan: We will be cutting in about 30 yards of moderately benched trail and then progress as far as we can through a flatter area which will require a little benching in some areas but mostly scraping. Plan on working for around 3 hours, but don't feel obligated.

    Tools needed:
    - Flat shovels
    - Rouge Hoes
    - McLeods
    - Rakes (not many needed)

Tip: Sharpen the edges of your tools with a file or grinder to make digging (cutting through roots) easier.

If you are in possession of any club tools mentioned above please bring them. We will not need the motorized tillers for the work we are doing.

    Other items to bring:
    - Water/snacks
    - Long pants/sleeves and gloves (if sensitive to poison ivy)
    - Safety glasses
    - Insect repellent

    Where/When:
    - Meet in the lower parking lot below the sledding hill at 9:00 AM Sunday 9/18/10.

Work area map: (click to enlarge)

Due to insurance restrictions all participants must be members of FORC. Not a member and want to help? Join: Here

Please reply if you plan on coming so we can get an estimate of the number of people who will be there.

We will be building one of if not the longest down hill trails in the QCA. So if you are looking for some place to go fast down hill this is you opportunity to be part of something you will love ride. Come out and as Rage said "EARN YOUR DIRT"!

Condition update: Despite the rain today, the work area is still in good shape (not muddy). Even if we get quite a bit of rain tonight I expect things will be fine tomorrow because of the dry spell we have had.

    See you tomorrow.

Update: We are going to push the start time back to 10:30 AM to let some of the rain clear the area. Keep an eye on this thread for further developments.
