Default Forcmeister hit by car and in hospital post broken ankle surgery

FORCers, one of our own has been taken out. Rick Wren was riding his road bike home from work last night when he was struck by a vehicle. He was hit hard enough that he was launched in the air and landed ON the Suburban that hit him. The Suburban came to rest on Rock's bike totalling it.

Rick suffered abraisions and a broken ankle (which required urgery today). Doctor said post-surgery that Rick will not be able to jog/run in the future which blows for him (and Bailey the Black Lab) since he liked to do that regularly. Good thing though -- Doc said he WILL be able to ride again! Rock on, Forcmeister!

Get the word out! Say your prayers for Forcmeister's quick recovery.

Forcmeister is being held captive at Genesis West, Room 7024.
    I wanna ride!

    Bex,

I cut and pasted your original post to our website so others will know. I talked to Rick tonight and he said he should be out tomorrow.

Rick, I wish you a very speedy recovery and I know you are in very good hands with Joan taking care of you. I wish you both the best.

Hi all! First of all MY BAD! I said suburban but it was a blazer! Thank you all for all of your kind words. I have the FORCmeister here at home. He is resting comfortably but not happily. He is on pain meds and cannot have his beloved Uncommon until he is off the meds! I am hoping to get some stocked up waiting for the day! The bike is awful! I had to go in and get sick after seeing it! NO JOKE! He is VERY VERY lucky man! Doctor told him today that he might be able to re-think the no running AFTER the leg is healing! So, keep the prayers going for that one!

Keeps your eyes open for these baaaaad drivers when YOU are out there!

    Love ya all!

That Doc may have a PHD in medicine but doesn't know the Forcmeister...
If Rick wants to run, he will find a way.

That sucks. Hope they had insurance. What did you commute on again? It was a $10,000 race bike, right? That's what I remember at least... and what I'll tell the insurance company when they call for witnesses. Get well soon Rick!

Get well soon, Forcmeister. If anyone can turn this into a positive recovery/survivor story, it's you! For Christmas this year, I think we should all pitch in to get you an armored bike complete with HANS device and lasers.

Thank you everyone for you kind words. This is definately one of the worst injuries I've had for a while and had the potential to be a whole lot worse. But, I have a great physical therapist, nutritionalist, coach, and all around care giver aka: Momma Joan. She will help me to a speedy recovery. It's either that or she's going to kill me.

    Thanks again FM

P.S. for any future night rides I have two sets of lights that are just setting here if someone wants to pick them up to use or for someone else to use.

Hey gang! I was just wondering if FM could borrow some bike videos? DVD or VHS would work! He is going to have to be sitting in front of the tv for a very loooong time and I DON'T want him getting hooked on soap operas! It is going to be such a long winter for him, and I cannot afford to be going out and buying these IF we could borrow some! Much appreciated!

Have a great day! It is sunny and nice! Go ride your bike, but please be careful!
