Default 2023 IFP Trail Trimming Status

Trail trimming season is quickly approaching and we're trying a new method to get it done this year.

If you have a couple hours to help, pick a section, or more than one ;), on the map below and go to town trimming back vegetation that is encroaching on the trails. We usually trim at least 2 feet to each side of the trail. Leave any trees within this zone obviously. FORC has a handful of trimmers we can loan you. Post below if you need one and we can make arrangements. Once a section is completed, let us know so we can update this thread.

Recommended gear for trimming: Long pants/shirt, sturdy shoes, eye protection, bug head net, water/snack.

    Section | Status
    1 - South Down & Connector | Fully Trimmed
    2 - South Up | Fully Trimmed
3 - Upper South West | Fully Trimmed
4 - Upper South East | Fully Trimmed
    5 - Connector & North Climb | Trimmed
    6 - Overlook Loop | Trimmed
    7 - North Loop | Trimmed
    8 - North Down | Trimmed

Going to be at Illiniwek Sat. morning at 7am. Will be in the main trailhead parking lot across from the campground if anyone wants to join. Have one spare trimmer to loan out. Plan to hit the North/South Climb/Downhills.

Getting close to finishing trimming at Illiniwek. Will probably be done by the end of this weekend. The park staff are going to mow the upper south field with their tractor so whoever does that section can skip that part.
