Default 2020 Taming of the Slough - Call for Volunteers & General Info

The 2020 Taming of the Slough is coming up quick and we're helping River Action with the course on Sylvan Island again this year. We're looking for volunteers to help with course marshalling and setting up and tearing down the MTB leg of the race on Sylvan Island.

Taming course arrows are painted in pink this year for those wanting to ride the course before the event (we suggest you do!). FYI, the orange arrows are a trail running route that is much longer. The course is mostly the same as last year (see map below) with a few new trails thrown into the mix. Racers will need to complete two laps of the course for the event. There may be some FORCers out during the Tune Ups to help guide riders along route and answer questions. The remaining Taming Tune Ups are on Thurs 9/3 & 9/10 from 5:30pm to 7:00pm.

Taming of the Slough - Saturday September 12st
    • Course Setup (7:00-8:00am) Will need a few people to tape the course and set up stakes/cones along entrance.
    • Course Marshals (8:00-11:00am) around 10 people [bring bug spray, water, and a chair]. Meet at the tent right after crossing the bridge for location assignment.
    • Course Teardown (11:00-11:30am) Need a few people to stick around to pull down tape, clean up trash, take down popups, cones, etc.

Post Up if you can help and we'll put you on the list. Volunteers also need to sign up as a River Action volunteer (select the "bike course marshal" checkbox). Volunteers will get a meal voucher from a food truck and beer, served at Bass Street Landing, after the event! There may or may not be t-shirts for volunteers this year. Fill out the shirt size box on the volunteer registration page just in case.

Taming is still a go. Bring your raincoats and galoshes. Should be quite the race! River

Race is still a go for Saturday morning. Afterparty will be at Bass Street Landing. Looks like rain will be tapering off towards noon but bring your rain gear just in case.
