Default Sylvan Island Update: Boots on the Ground

Last weekend I had a chance to visit Sylvan Island to check out some of the singletrack trails. Just posted a photo report from the trip on my blog this morning. Check it out here: Sylvan Island Revisited 3/20/16 Below are a couple of images from the gallery.

    The middle loading dock trail.

    Highly overgrown central limestone trail.

The west end was in pretty rough shape. Lots of large trees have come down and flooding has pushed a lot of debris over the lower trails.

Awesome Drew! It doesn't seem like it's been 3 years since we've been on the island. Can't wait to get back out there and MAKE THE ISLAND GREAT AGAIN!

Thanks Drew for posting! Awesome blog and photos! Wish we had a contact in the US Fish & Wildlife Department since they are the hold-up at this point with their mussel report. No work can be done until that report has been received. That being said, the tentative plan is for work to begin on the bridge Spring 2017 provided the report supports the project happening. They say patience is a virtue...

Thanks for the update Bexter! It felt good to get back on the island. Can't wait to get the bike out there again.

Drew, how's that boat landing spot? I'm wondering if it's too rocky/rough for a fiberglass hull?

Yeah, it was pretty rocky and shallow along that whole northeastern tip of the island. Not well suited for fiberglass boats. There may be some other spots along the levee trail (by the kayak portage?) that would work or on the western shore below the arsenal dam. We didn't explore those so hard to say if they would work. I'd try the western shore first since it seems more sandy.
