Working on Berm Structures - Sunday (3/29) @ 9am

Working on the berm structures again this Sunday (3/29) starting at 9:00 am. Meet in the upper south parking lot by the salt dome.

The goal is to finish installing the last curved structural members so we can move on to the decking. We will be gluing up the members and attaching them to the support posts like last weekend.

Another impact driver and more clamps will be needed. Bar clamps, large C clamps, or any clamp with a screw tightening mechanism works best.

Wear clothing you don't mind getting glue on because it gets everywhere.

If we have the numbers, the trails also need to have the leaves blown off of them to promote drying. I'll have fuel and the backpack blower if someone wants to work on that.

How to bend a complex curve.

Diagram showing how the beams are made. Each beam is a stack of two 2x4s. Each 2x4 had to be cut into fourths to allow bending. The pieces are not equal width and overlap to create a stronger joint once glued.

The forecast is calling for rain Sunday morning up until around noon. If it is raining at 9:00 am, we are going to move the start time to 2:00 pm Sunday afternoon and hope the ground isn't too muddy. If we get too much rain and it is too muddy we will have to cancel and try again next week. I'll post an update tomorrow morning.

Rain is coming, and lucky for us the predicted accumulation has been decreasing. It looks like the storm will have passed by 11:00 so lets plan on starting at noon. Still meeting in the upper south lot by the salt dome.
