    Default Newbie/novice rides

Curious about mountain biking? Join FORC for a beginner ride and discover the pure joy of riding single track.
We will discuss bike handling, rider positioning, clearing obstacles, and basic maintenance
Then we’ll go on a “no rider left behind” ride where we’ll stop and examine obstacles, and practice our skills according to your comfort level. Most rides will last about an hour.

    When: 6:00 PM April 22, 29; May 6, 13 (weather permitting)
    Where: Sunderbruch Park West Davenport
I may have to grow old, but I'll never have to grow up.

Not really. I wouldn't bring a five year old with a little bike. I'm thinking mostly grown up with a standard size mountain bike.

Oh and bring a helmet. Must have a helmet. Pads are optional.

    Bumping this... starts Tuesday.

Russ has had a change of work schedule, so he asked if I would take this on. I can, but it would sure be helpful for a few other FORCers to be there to help work with the newbies this ride is reaching out to. Anyone?? Bueller? Bueller?

I'll try to help out next week if I can get off work in time. Shoulder surgery on April 30 so I probably won't be able to help with any of the other days...pretty sure I would get in trouble if I were to ride the day before going under the knife!

Seems like the PERFECT reason TO ride your bike!

Thanks for being willing to help out. I created a Facebook event. So far, 7 people have RSVP'd and an 8th person texted me. Thinking I'll get there at 5:15 and get a short ride in, back to parking lot by 5:50 to greet riders. Who has the FORC banner?

Weather update: We are supposed to get rain today which, depending on the amount of rainfall, may result in the trails being closed on Tuesday. If that happens, we can still meet and work on some basic skills in the grass field at Sunderbruch Park and do a tire changing clinic. The weather on Tuesday is suppose to be nice.

My Fiancé and I are planning on making it out this week. She is a Newbie but I have taken her on a couple off road rides so this sounds extremely beneficial for her and I’m sure I can learn a thing or two.

the trails at Sunderbruch are very dry right now. I would bet, barring a torrential downpour that lasts for a few hours, the trails will likely withstand today's rainfall and have a high probability of being open by Tuesday late afternoon or evening.

we will make sure to check the trails and give proper advance notice.

We haven't checked them yet... they're still marked OPEN and we'll have someone out there this afternoon to make sure.

    OK. Thanks for checking.

If the trails are closed, don't despair folks. We will work on basic skills in the field and we will also learn how to change a flat tire. See you tonight!

GREAT turnout last night. Thanks to Bexter, Vonda, Anna and Dave of the Browns for leading the groups. Hope everyone had a good time and learned some new skills!
