Default Taming of the Slough Course Setup: Friday 9/13 @ 5:30PM

We are going to be setting up the Taming course this Friday evening at Illiniwek. Meeting at 5:30 PM in the lower lot. Dusk group ride afterwards (~7:00) so bring your bikes and lights (sun sets at 7:15).

Can someone bring a box (or two) of the black plastic stakes we use for Sylvan to mark off the gravel path and a few rolls of caution tape if we have anymore in the shed? If we don't have any more caution tape let me know so I can get some.

There will also be a crew out doing some trail trimming. No major trail work is required and JB has already taken care of most of the trimming. It should take a little more than an hour to get everything setup.

Post up if you plan on coming.

I expect the first racers could start entering the trails around 8:45. Lets be there by 8:00 on Sat. morning so there is enough time to fix any of the course markings if necessary. Volunteers can park in the lower or upper parking lot depending on where they are stationed.

Also remember to sign up on River Action's volunteer list (I think you get a t-shirt and food/drinks at the after party if you do): http://www.riveraction.org/volunteer

Thanks guys! Do you know if there will be extra plastic stakes that we could use for the transition area? I think River Action has some options for this - just not sure what exactly. Also, where's the best place to get some caution tape?

Nate, there will probably be some extra stakes. Not exactly sure where to get caution tape. Menards maybe?

Can someone volunteer to bring the stakes and caution tape from the shed on Friday?

I'll plan on meeting up w/ you guys Friday evening at some point - I think you mentioned there might be additional arrow signs we could use for the running course as well?

I'll inventory the stakes and caution tape tonight after work or first thing in the morning. I shouldn't have any problem getting the stakes and tape to you by 5:30 Friday. I don't know if I can hang around and help set. How much tape will you need? I can always pick some more up if need be.
You'd understand if you know what I was talking about.

Right now we have one roll of tape (300' I think) and we need around 800' to mark the MTB course. Maybe get a bit extra just to be safe. Thanks AG!

Nate, we should have some spare arrows since we are marking the field crossings with the stakes and tape. I think we will need 5-7 arrows for the mtb course.

We will probably be done with setup by then. Bring you bike and lights though for the ride afterwards.

Drew if you didn't see it there is a tree down on the south end up hill just after the bridge.

I can't make it tonight as I've got concert tickets for tonight. I can help clean up after the race tomorrow (I am "racing" the bike portion of the race -- which means I'm just riding my bike through the woods like normal).
    I wanna ride!

Thanks for the help tonight everyone. I will be there around 7-7:30 to button up a few things and should have a selection of t-shirts for the volunteers.

Things which still need attention in the morning:

    - Filling the 6" gap between the red bridge deck and the trail (I'll have a shovel)
    - Putting up the arrows (some near the road entering the park, one on the south loop right before the course goes down the steep hill, at the end of the long straight section on the connector trail where the trail splits to the right)
    - Finish taping near the road entering the park.
    - Cones down the middle of the road entering the park (starting from the brown posts near the highway) and maybe a few along the river facing side of the north road/parking lot.
    - Doing a quick sweep of the trails to make sure no tape has gone missing.

Also, if you see anyone using the trails politely tell them they are closed for the race and should be re-opened around 11AM.
