It's finally here!
The first trail day of 2012!
First, to bring everyone up to speed that wasn't able to make the meeting at Blue Iguana last night:
River Action granted QCFORC $5,000 for costs involved with construction of extending the Jubilee loop at Sunderbruch Park. Thank you RIVER ACTION!!!
If you've been attending the last few months of meetings, you've heard me talk about this "Jubilee trail extension" as though it were some mythical heavenly trail that only the Gods have seen.
Well, we now can begin this project!
But wait...a trail day in FEBRUARY? WTF?!!?
Due to the length of this trail, we're gonna be putting in A TON of hours to bring the trail to full completion *AND* we actually have a deadline to complete the trail to get the 2nd half of the grant funds. So, we need to get started early.
Thankfully, there isn't any snow on the ground (sorry fat bikes) which is going to make things easy on us to get started.
Here's what we've gotta do Sunday:
CLEAR THE CORRIDOR
Basically, clearing the path of deadfall, bushes, low hanging braches, etc. We will not be doing any dirt work at this point.
Pretty easy stuff. We'll need a few chainsaws, loppers, machetes (if you have one), and other brush clearing tools.
Make sure to wear boots or footwear with strong ankle support - we're working on a substantially steep sideslope. The high on Sunday is looking to be low-30's. A baselayer, a light layer on top, under a hoodie or jacket/windbreaker and you'll be plenty warm. Wool socks and maybe some long undies under jeans/cargos...you get the idea.
I'm hoping to see 10-12 of us show up and get this project underway.
See you there!
