John asked me to post up notice about a work day at Sylvan Island this coming weekend. He's not sure yet whether it will be Saturday or Sunday. Depends what the forecasted rain is going to do. They are saying 50% rain on Wednesday night, and 30% rain Saturday (not sure if day or evening). Check back after Thursday as the final decision will be posted.
Things to do:
Chain saw and removal of several downed trees.
Cutting back of sapling and branch growth along existing trails.
Raking existing trails (many derailleur-killing sticks on our trail treads).
Trash collection.
Raking new proposed singletrack section.
Drink beer.
Does anyone have access to old rubber floor mats (similar to those bartenders stand on behind the bar). These would be useful on one of the trails where lots of glass continues to surface... North West of where Homey had his tent (sometimes called "Your Kinda"). About 3 of those mats would work well along the rim on Your Kinda where the glass is worst. If you can get your hands on any of these, please do so and bring them this weekend.
Things to bring:
Chain saw and fuel / oil.
Rakes (both kinds).
Loppers.
Shovels (to repair the ruts burned into the tread).
Hand saws.
Large garbage bags.
Anything else you think may be helpful.
Camera.
Bike and helmet.
