Friday November 10th Trail Day- We're using the bridge- Bring your bike!
I know many people have to work, but we have access across the bridge due to the construction company working. For those who can't make this event, we will have additional opportunities as we move forward. The anticipated bridge opening date is December 6th. That's just 4 weeks away!
Park in the normal Sylvan Island Parking lot!
General Constructors is graciously allowing us to go through the construction site, which is a restricted area due to risk management and insurance liabilities. Most companies wouldn't consider this, but GC is working with FORC to provide us with this opportunity. In order to take advantage, we will be escorted to the island at 9:00am, and we will be escorted back at 1:00 pm. If you would like to arrive later or leave earlier- please bring your kayak and boat across similar to what we did last Sunday. Its very important to be there on time. Sincerely, Thank you for understanding.
We plan to have crews take care of a few issues and then we hope to ride for a bit until we find things that need improved/corrected, at which point we can work a little more and then ride a little more. Its going to be colder, dress in layers. Leaf blowers, hand saws, rakes and rogue hoes will be the tools of choice.
We are close to having a good loop open - there are a few things that still need some attention:
1. The double track on the backside of the island has 2 areas with trees across. These trees are slightly bigger than what we would normally tackle with a handsaw. If we want to get a loop open, maybe a couple crews can take a look at these. If they're too big, we'll ask the city get them later.
2. The double track on the lower end of the island is COVERED in debris and a couple very large trees. We may not be able to work around this but if we could find a way to open a route up through here, it would help. If not- we'll get it later. This area is really bad.
3. Between the triple creek crossing and My Kinda- there is a BIG tree down. I am hoping to ladder bridge it 1st thing when we get there.
4. The shingle bridge is junk and in the way. We need a few strong peeps to get the remainder of it out of the way. There is no water here at this time, so the trail can be opened under it.
5. The fast line from the backside double track to the loading docks- over the gravel double- is still very much closed. Be cool to get this opened up if we can.
6. The loading docks (sometimes called the canals) and the run over the concrete foundation need to be opened up. They're not super bad, but they need attention.
7. The Brickyard needs some cleaning. The corridor isn't bad but the bed has a lot of debris.
8. Zig Zag is 3/4 open and has an extension that is complete. We need to open the drop in off of the levy and about 150 feet of the trail. the heavy corridor cutting is complete, needs the corridor finished up and the bed cleaned.
Nothing says we have to get all of this done- I just wanted to let you know what needs completed. The more we get done, the bigger our loop will get. If we get all these items open, we'll be close to 3.5 miles!! Trails are soft- its gonna be a push until we get a few laps on them!
We hope you can make it!! Snacks and beverages will be provided!

Believe in yourself? Well sure, of course. But be aware that "believing in myself" has been the root cause of most of my injuries.
