A worthy opponent has been discovered for the invasive garlic mustard, a native European plant that has infested forests in at least 34 states. A team of scientists searched for insects that pose the biggest threat to the mustard and found a weevil, Ceutorhynchus scrobicollis, that feeds on the roots, cuts off water and nutrients to the rest of the plant and chews up the plant’s new-growth area.
