Whats with the clearing off of trees?

Davenport is moving forward with another phase of the blacktop bicycle path that runs through Sunderbruch. The long term goal is for the existing path to continue out of the parking lot and over the hill to connect with the Duck creek path, and the addition being put in now will eventually connect with the River drive bike path, so they are clearing an area for the path on Sugar Bottom trail.

The city has been really great about trying not to make a mess of our work in this park and asked for our input for placement of this extension. Due to ADA and maximum allowable slopes on the blacktop path, they were limited in where they could put it, it was originally slated to run right over one of our fastest and funnest down sections. After re-consulting with the engineers and talking with the then Steward and one of his dirt crew, they came up with the current route which saves that section of trail.

How cool is it that the city changed their route just to accomodate little old us?
