Hello and a bit of advice/insight please

Well first of all this is my first post so hello everyone :)

I'm thinking of purchasing a new Mtb and was looking for a little feedback. I had a giant Rainer last year and unfortunatley it was stolen before I got to ride it all the much I'm now considering buying a Giant Xtc 2 I've read reviews online for it and have seen very little bad comments about it. I will honestly be ridding mostly on the street (maybe riding to work) and trying to get to Sylavan Island when I have a weekend off here and there . . . But I am very much a newb . . . .

So any advice on whether on not this is the bike I should go with . . . ? Sugjestions of another model . . . ?
Any help is appreciated :D
