    Default IFP Trailwork: Thursday 6/12 @ 4:30pm

I'm planning on working on trail features on the south loop Thursday (6/12) evening this week. Meeting in the upper parking lot on the South Loop near the salt dome at 4:30. If you can't make it out that early, we will be working near the s-turn just west of the pedestal map at the top of the longer south climb/descent.

We will be building something a little less complex than this:

I'm bringing a log arch to attempt to move the big logs into position. If that doesn't work, we will try carrying them with tow straps. If you have any other tools that would be useful for moving/positioning large (900lb) logs let me know. I will have shovels and rogue hoes as usual. A wheelbarrow would also be useful to move some dirt we need to excavate.

The bugs (gnats and mosquitoes) are still very bad and bug spray is only partially effective against both types. If you don't have a head net I would highly recommend picking one up for $3 in the camping section of the local big box store. Long sleeves and pants also help.

I have a Bobcat. It is 70" wide. Do you think we get it down the trail without any damage?

The bobcat might be too much. The park offered to move the logs with their tractor front end loader but we were worried about damaging the trails in the area and clearances between trees.

A little progress tonight. The homebuilt log arch couldn't handle the size of these logs so we had to fall back to some ancient technology. It worked surprisingly well.
