Crash Pete, Krud and I are going to do this in September... basically a fat tire tour de brew around Lake Geneva with 9 stops and hog roast afterward. It's a memorial fund raising thing. We plan to drive up that morning, ride and maybe drive home that night... depending on our alcohol intake. Maybe we should plan now to get a hotel room. Ha!

$35 if you preregister by 9/10/11 but it is a rain or shine event (I'm skipping it if it rains).

The Fat Tire Memorial Tour of Lake Geneva (FTMTLG) is a fun bicycle ride on paved roads around Geneva Lake Wisconsin traditionally held on the last Saturday of September. Recent changes in other community supported events has allowed FTMTLG to grab the third Saturday in September creating the opportunity for a better weather scenario. Beginning with a mass group start at Champ's Sports Bar & Grill in the City of Lake Geneva, it consists of nine designated stops at sponsoring taverns. Proceeding at your own pace, the ride is approximately 21.5 miles and the "rest" stops are evenly spaced. Participating businesses are Champ's, Fischer's Bar & Grill, Shifters Bar and Food, The Owl Tavern, Gordy's Boat House, Chuck's Lake Shore Inn, Harpoon Willies, Lucke's Cantina, and Mars Resort Bar & Grill. The ride is held rain or shine and travels through Lake Geneva, Fontana and Williams Bay with great views of Geneva Lake and Lake Como.
The original ride started with a few local friends making an annual fall color tour around the lake on mountain bikes. Pit stops along the way became part of the fun. The first organized event was held in 1996 with the help of Tim Hibbard and Krissy Zadler. It was put together as an experiment to share the fun that could be had on bicycles while touring around Geneva Lake. Tim and Krissy were young outdoor sports enthusiasts from Lake Geneva, they were returning from another biking event in 1997 when they were involved in a fatal automobile accident. The ride is dedicated as a memorial to Tim and Krissy with all proceeds funding college scholarships to Badger High School graduates and donations to local bike trail maintenance and construction. Two scholarships are awarded annually and presently eight scholarships are being funded. Recipients must be Badger graduates and be attending a Wisconsin College or University.

The Fat Tire Memorial Tour of Lake Geneva Corp. is a non-profit organization created to protect and maintain the integrity and profits from this event. The Board of Directors is comprised of close friends and family of Tim and Krissy's. All works is done by volunteers including participation by scholarship recipients.
Participants receive a map of the route, a pig roast dinner ticket and a general raffle ticket. Other events taking place during the ride are a poker run and separate bike raffle. T-shirts are handed out to the first 700 riders to pick up registration packets on the day of the event. Additional pig roast tickets may be purchased for non-riders.
