The 7th Annual Brown County Breakdown is only six weeks away and now's the time to plan your weekend and join in the fun! The Brown County Breakdown is more than just a mountain bike ride. The entire weekend is a festival celebrating mountain biking in Indiana and highlighting some of the best and newest single track in the State.

    ~ Friday, October 7
Join HMBA leaders, local volunteers, families and friends for the grand opening of the brand new mountain bike trail at Fort Benjamin Harrison (Indianapolis, IN). Money raised from the Brown County Breakdown helps the Hoosier Mountain Bike Association fund grants that put more trail on the ground in Indiana, including those at Fort Ben!

From the ceremony, head south to Brown County State Park where the official on-site camping area opens at the Start/Finish. This exclusive campground is limited, so be sure and sign up early to gaurantee a spot. On Friday night Big Woods Brewing Company (Nashville, IN) will be providing compimentary beer to event participants from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. or until the kegs run out!

    ~ Saturday, October 8
A free bike and product demo is available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the North Gate mountain bike parking lot. Test ride bikes and see some of the newest, coolest product on the market from large and small manufacturers including Giant, Trek and SRAM. The demo is free and open to the public. A Family Fun Ride begins at 2 p.m. and is a great way for families with kids or those not yet able to ride the longer Breakdown routes to join in a fun, casual ride and experience mountain biking on introductory level trails.

On Saturday evening the fun continues at the exclusive on-site camping with complimentary beer from Upland Brewing Company and live bluegrass music starting with the New Old Calvary. Enjoy the pickins' of this Bloomington based band as you warm up by the group camp fire.

For the 2011 event, Sub-9 Productions is excited to announce special musical guest, Danny Barnes! Danny will be stopping by on Saturday evening to play an intimate show at the exclusive on-site camping area. Danny Barnes is a master of the banjo and has played (and recorded) with the likes of Dave Matthews, Bela Fleck, Government Mule, Leftover Salmon, Del McCoury, Sam Bush, Yonder Mountain String Band, Nickel Creek and more! You can find all the info about Danny and his latest CD, Pizza Box, at www.dannybarnes.com

    ~ Sunday, October 9
Let the ride begin! This year's route features the brand new Green Valley Loop, opened in June of this year. Money raised from the 2010 Breakdown helped HMBA finish construction of this trail.

Go to www.browncountybreakdown.com for a complete schedule of events and list of start times. We'll see you at the Brown County Breakdown!

Just a little over three weeks left to get registered for the 7th Annual Brown County Breakdown! We have a huge weekend of events planned that you are NOT going to want to miss. We've already received registrations from AZ, CO, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KY, MI, MO, NC, NM, NY and OH. We have never had so many different states represented!

The fun begins on Friday, October 7 with the grand opening of the new mountain bike trails at Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park (Indpls, IN). Join HMBA leaders, local volunteers, families and friends at 11 a.m. for the opening ceremony followed by a casual group ride.

Following the ceremony, head south to Brown County State Park (www.browncountymountainbiking.com) where the exclusive on-site camping at the Start/Finish will open at 3 p.m. There is still plenty of room for both Friday and Saturday night, but space is limited so be sure and sign-up online to guarantee a spot. Be sure and stop by the bike and product demos from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 8 at the main mountain bike parking lot near the North Gate entrance.
~ Chat with HMBA leaders and long-time members and see what's next for HMBA. Renew your HMBA-IMBA membership or buy your favorite HMBA gear. Registered participant's who are current HMBA members receive a free commemorative pint glass (while supplies last)!
~ Visit the Friends of Brown County State Park booth and enter your name to win a free 2012 Indiana State Park pass.
~ Test ride bikes from Giant and Trek and look at the latest merchandise from SKS-Germany, Scott, Mavic and more.
~ Sign up for private mountain bike photo sessions with official event photographers, 2 Pedals Photography.

Don't forget the Family Fun Ride begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday. This is it folks... last week to register!

We've got a great new punishing course put together for the 100 mile riders. We've packed more trail than ever before into the Hickory Ridge "Big Loop". Out of 25 miles in the loop, only 3 miles are gravel or asphalt.

Weather and trail conditions could not be better for this weekend. We'll see you at the Breakdown!

It's been a crazy couple of weeks, but I'm finally catching up from the Breakdown and have lots of exciting news to share.

The 7th Annual Brown County Breakdown was our most successful event to date raising more than $23,000 for HMBA! That puts the grand total well over $80,000 since the inaugural 2005 event. We had close to 520 riders register and nearly 20 different states represented this year. The official event recap is now posted on the Breakdown website at http://www.browncountymountainbiking...011-recap.html.

Event photographs from 2 Pedals Photography are now available online as well as a 16-page, magazine style souvenir book. Go to www.2pedalsphotography.com and click on the Events page.

The date is set for the 8th Annual Brown County Breakdown, so mark your calendar now for the second weekend in October and join October 12-14, 2012.

You can stay up to date on all the info for the 2012 event on Facebook.
    www.facebook.com/browncountybreakdown

We are also VERY excited to announce that Brown County was named to the 2011 class of IMBA epic destinations. You can read more about it here: http://www.hmba.org/smf/index.php?topic=9315.0

The official IMBA announcement will be made in their upcoming newsletter... hope you're a member!
