Yesterday, we made some re routes to the trail system. When we 1st started making trails, we were going to do a loose "stacked loop" system. These systems have a main green loop and blues coming off of the green loops and blacks coming off of the blues, with intersections where the terrain allows. These can be great systems, but we found out quickly that in small areas like Sunder, you end up with trails willy nilly everywhere. Think Sylvan Island.

As we moved forward with the trail design, we decided to go with a more structured stacked loop system similar to Sugar Bottom, where the blues and blacks would go off of- and return to- the main green trail fairly closely. This allows faster and slower riders to meet up frequently when riding together because the less experienced riders can skip a trail and rest while the more experienced rider does it.

This left the area between Blue Mound and Kickapoo as the only area with the Loose system. With Davenport paying big money for signs, we had to make a decision as to what we were going to do- Leave it this way with signage indecipherable, or make changes so this area fits in with the rest of the park. After looking at every option we could think of, and much discussion including the city, we decided to make this area fit in with the rest of the park.

I will get the updated map to Steve on Monday for posting, but be aware that Blue Mound and the Kickapoo’s are now like every other trail in the park- they both enter AND EXIT onto Comlara (the green trail). As with all the other trails, they can be included in a multiple lap ride, or they can be skipped for a shortened lap ride.

We know trail changes are scrutinized closely by users, and we think the reasons for this change will be apparent if it ever stops raining so we can ride the dang thing.

THANKS TO EVERYONE who has helped us in the last couple of weeks with weed eating, rock gardens, re routes, etc. The Fest is 3 weeks out- we’re getting it ready!!
