    Default Copper Harbor, MI Fat Tire Fest 2011

    Last year a group of 9 went to this event. This year I'm going back. I'm posting this now with details so that if you are at all intersted you can make plans to join us.
    Here's the plan:
    Leave the QC early Thursday, September 1st.
    Camping at Fort Wilkins State Park
    Race is on Sunday, some will contest that you do not have to race to attend and have a blast
    Return Monday the 5th.
    It is a drive, at least 10 hours. That would be the reason we will be gone for 5 days. Trails are incredible with unmatched scenery in a very remote part of the mid-west. This event has grown from less than 100 to over 400 in just a couple years. I plan on taking my trailer. The few people I have talked to about going and are planning on going (Krud, Jonny, Ray, Aaron, Richard). The van has filled up fast but I can take other bike on the trailer if you have a ride.

    Save me a seat, I plan to go. Is the van full? let's see, AG, Vibrato, Beer... we might need a bigger van...

    If Poof decides to go I'll get with you to see if we're takin our own or both piling in.

    I've heard great things about Copper Harbor. Maybe next year.

    There will be a group from CAMBr going up to Copper this year. We too went there last year and were pretty blown away with how awesome these trails were. See you all up there.

    Just about 2 months away can't wait!!! We need to start putting together a list who's going so we can figure out where to camp. Last year we stayed at the group site, not much room. Do we want to try that again? Or do we reserve a couple other sites?

    Do you have a go/no go deadline? Im interested in going IF I can make it work. Making it work means I need to have saved 5 vacation days and have other family obligations taken care of. If that happens, Id love to join you's.

    No dead line. The only issue would be the camping. And that's not really an issue. As our group proved last year, we can squeeze in anywhere.

    This is for every one planning on going up. The price goes up in 5 days to $50. Right now it's $35. Get after it!!!

    Based on last year, an official campsite sounds pretty good. It won't cost us much for a few days, but I think would be well worth it to have a bit of space. Last year was a bit cramped... and gassy. Ha!

    Keep in mind last year we didn't get there until Saturday, this year we are getting there 2 days earlier. I hope getting here Thursday will get us a better spot.

    Yea, and I thought about that. Wonder how full the campground gets. If the Fest camping is full like last year, perhaps we can snag an official campsite.

    Anybody else planning to do the long course? kurt and I rode together last year and had a blast, if anyone wants to join us, we just waited for each other now and then and basically turned it into a group ride in the middle of the pack.

    Lotta miles though. We both full body cramped at the finish line...

    If I missed anyone or have someone on the list that shouldn't be there, post it up.
    We are getting down to just over 2 weeks away and we usually start thinking about who's driving and what to drive. Meg and myself are planning on it at this point. Everyone that is on the list I believe will be at the party on Saturday, lets plan on getting together then to hash out some details.

    I cant wait for this trip, I need a vacation...

    I'm out but my coffin cooler really wants to go again and is a little sore that you didn't count him as part of the group last year...With the coffin cooler, TEN went on the trip last year, not nine. Did any of you other scrubs carry upwards of 400 beers with you the entire trip? No! Give the MAN some friggin' respect!

    Further, he wanted me to tell you that if he goes on this trip again and once again does not come back with a new sticker to brandish, he will pee in all your beverages at next year's Midwest Mountain Bike Fest where, by the way, my team will once again kick LAMBA's ass at Mountain Bike Dodgeball!

    They posted the short course on there site. It is a completely different course. They have it starting from our camp site! Though the 3 mile climb right off the line will suck balls fo sho.
