    Default Bottom Brackets

Looking to replace mine as it is getting sloppy. Currently have a Shimano BB-M952, 112.5mm spindle. This is a first version octalink with XTR Crank set.

First is it a big deal if i buy a slightly longer spindle 116 is easier to come by.

Since Octalink is old technology can I install a bottom bracket that uses external bearings on my 2002 frame? Of course I know I would need crank set to do this.

Also if anyone has parts available I would be interested in buying them.

    Thanks for the help!

You should be able to find either length without a lot of dough... either way, the longer spindle is ok, the BB shell width is prolly more important, assume yours is 68mm. BB's are very common setup for 73mm shell and use a spacer for 68mm shell. I may have a spare octolink BB... and am pretty sure I don't have any octolink cranks anymore. I'll check.

For sure you can use new external bearings/cranksets.
