Just kinda getting started here and I don't really know anyone who bikes often. Any advice you guys could throw me would be great.

Come out to our weekly group rides to meet other riders. Next one is at Westbrook Park in DeWitt on Thursday @ 5:30. Westbrook is a great beginner friendly trail because it has a variety of trails requiring different skill levels, not a lot of climbing, and generally smoother trail surface.
Start riding to build fitness/skills and don't worry too much about fancy equipment at this point. Concentrate on things that make riding comfortable like a good saddle, gloves, shoes, etc. Check out YouTube for skill drills; lots of good info out there. Used bikes are posted in the buy/sell section of the forum pretty often. Lot's of good deals.

I'm with DH! Also, the group rides are a blast and there is always people with different skill levels to ride with and help you progress
