The 2017 Taming of the Slough is just a few weeks away and we're looking for volunteers to help with the MTB leg of the race.

Taming Tune Ups (meet at Illiniwek trailhead)
Need 2-3 people to help with showing riders around the course and answering questions about the event, bike setup, riding skills, etc.

    Tune Up Schedule:
    • #1 - Friday August 25th - 5:00-7:30pm [I'll be gone this day and need someone to lead]
    • #2 - Friday September 1st - 5:00-7:30pm [I'll be gone this day and need someone to lead]
    • #3 - Friday September 8th - 5:00-7:30pm

Taming of the Slough - Saturday September 16th
    • Course Setup (7:00-8:00am) need ~10 people. Also need someone to bring the FORC trailer to Illiniwek and haul it back after the event.
    • Course Marshals (8:00-11:00am) need at least 10 people [bring bug spray, water, and a chair]. Marshal Position Map Here
    • Course Teardown (11:00-12:00pm)

Thanks for stepping up so far everyone. I'm going to try something different this year for course marking at the Tune Ups which will require fewer volunteers. We'll be putting out laminated course direction signs and keeping them up until the event so people can ride the course if they can't make the Tune Ups. Hopefully we won't need to put out additional arrows or tape off intersections for Tune Ups this way.

Reminder that the first Taming Tune Up session up is tonight. Course marking arrows are posted and further setup for the Tune Ups shouldn't be necessary this year.

This is coming up fast. Still looking for volunteers for course marshal positions. Will need at least 6 more people. Remember to sign up over on River Action's website to get a t-shirt (see first post for details).

The course route will be the same as the last few years. Marshal positions are marked on the map below (red for most important to green for least).

The next (and last) Tune Up will be this Friday from 5:30 to 7:30.

Anna and I along with Ava can help course marshall for the race. We are camping at illiniwek. Let us know where and when to be somewhere.

Shannon and I will lend a hand where needed.
You'd understand if you know what I was talking about.

My son and I signed up through action sports to volunteer as course marshalls. Let me know if you still need a hand, we'd be glad to help out.

Thanks everyone, we should have enough marshals with everyone who has vouched so far. River Action said they were a little light on volunteers for the transition area at Empire Park, so if you still want to help out sign up at River Action's website and meet down there (you'll be closer to the beer).

Perry's can run the marshal sign in station/first aid tent. Be there around 8:00.

We'll also be sending out a sweep rider from the Empire Park transition area so we know for sure when the gig is up. If anyone wants to do this let me know.

Volunteers may also want to bring bug repellent and a folding chair. River Action is providing a case of bottled water.

Thanks again everyone! If you didn't get your volunteer t-shirt, River Action has quite a few left. Feel free to stop by the River Action building off of River Drive in Davenport between 8:30 and 5 to pick one up.
