Default Taming of the Slough 2016 - Call for Volunteers

The 2016 Taming of the Slough is just around the corner and we're looking for volunteers to help with the MTB leg of the race.

Taming Tune Ups (meet at Illiniwek trailhead)
Need 3-4 people to help with setting up and taking down course arrows, showing riders around the course, and answering questions about the event, bike setup, riding skills, etc.

    Schedule:
    • Tune Up #1 - Thursday August 25th - 5:30-8:00pm
    • Tune Up #2 - Thursday September 1st - 5:30-8:00pm [I'll be gone this day and need someone to fill in organizing]
    • Tune Up #3 - Thursday September 8th - 5:30-8:00pm
    • Tune Up #4 - Thursday September 15th - 5:30-8:00pm (bonus)

Taming of the Slough - Saturday September 17th
    • Course Setup (7:00-8:00am) need ~10 people. Also need someone to bring the FORC trailer to Illiniwek and haul it back after the event.
    • Course Marshals (8:00-11:00am) need at least 10 people [bring bug spray, water, and a chair]. Marshal Position Map Here
    • Course Teardown (11:00-12:00pm)

Post Up which day and position you are available for if you can help. Volunteers should also sign up as a River Action volunteer to reserve their free T-shirt. Volunteers get free pizza and beer, served at Empire Park, after the event!

The first Taming Tune Up is scheduled for this Thursday (8/25). If the trails stay open, we still need a couple people to help setup arrows to mark the course. Let me know if you can be there (meeting at 5:00 pm in the trailhead parking lot).

Eric S. is going to be taking charge of Tune Up setup on Thursday 9/1. The next FORC weekly group ride will also be held at this time (9/1 @ 5:30pm).

Tonight's Tune Up is CANCELLED due to wet trails. A few of us will be out doing trail repair work from all this rain instead. Meet us at the trailhead at 5:30 if you want to help (using hoes and shovels today).

If the trails dry out for Thursday's group ride and Tune Up #2, who's got some course arrows for me to setup?

I'll be there Thursday to help out, but not sure who has the signs. I know Drew will probably still be in Colorado though so not sure if JB or anyone else has signs for Illiniwek.

I just got a message from Jordan, he will have the arrows for the Taming Tune Up at Illiniwek tonight at 5:00pm for anyone who would like to help with setup and whatnot. I'm pretty sure he's checked out the trails and we'll be a go for tonight!

I just confirmed with Illinwek. Trails are good to good, not sure if anyone is around to update website trail status. I won't be there to help (don't get off work till 8, but checked for everyone wanting to go to ride and help today)

I'll be there around 4:45. Steve B. might also be there. Anyone else planning to ride? I'm also in need of course arrows to setup.

Does anyone want to sell Merch at Taming? I will be out of town. Typically we sell quite a bit. It would probably be good to set up near the festivities at the finish line and start set up around 9:00 and finish around 11:30.

Put me down for course marshall as well. I filled out River Action's form online but haven't heard anything from them yet. Hope it went through okay.

I would like to help with course setup, teardown, and course marshal. I drive a pick-up if you still need someone to haul your trailer.

Thanks everyone who has already volunteered! We still need a few more people for marshals and teardown. If you haven't already, remember to register as a volunteer on River Action's website to reserve your free t-shirt! (Click Here To Register)

    Setup:
    - iluvdirt
    - Steve B.
    - John & Deb
    - Mandy

    Marshalls:
    - Surge
    - Steve B.
    - Mandy
    - Dave & Carol
    - John & Deb
    - iluvdirt

    Teardown:
    - iluvdirt
    - John & Deb

Iluvdirt, I already have someone lined up to haul the trailer to the park Fri. evening, but we'll need someone to haul it back to storage (in downtown Rock Island) after the event. The trailer has a 2" ball.

There is also one more Tune Up this week on Thursday Sept. 15th at 5:30pm. I'll be out setting up arrows at 5:00pm if you want to stop by to help (meeting at the trailhead).

Busy Thur. night, but I can haul the trailer back after the event. I have both 6 slot round and 4 prong straight plug-ins for lights.

We'll be meeting at 7:00 am Saturday morning at the Illiniwek trailhead to tape off the course and setup the first-aid/volunteer registration station. The FORC trailer is on site with the supplies and ready to go. Racers will probably start arriving on course around 9:00 am.

IFP did get a little rain this afternoon but the trails were dry enough it won't be an issue. If anything, it will help knock down the dust. It's going to be a fast course tomorrow!

Ditto and I need to get back in the saddle again!

Did anyone from FORC by chance grab any left-behind boxes from Taming? There are a few items that River Action is missing.

    Nate
