    Default Dorrance Kickoff: Tues (4/19) & Fri (4/22) @ 5:30pm

We'll be kicking off the Dorrance trail project next week with two corridor clearing days. Work dates are Tuesday April 19th and Friday the 22nd both starting at 5:30pm. Meet in the parking lot by the bathrooms (map here). We will begin clearing underbrush, downed trees, and other debris in preparation for building the actual trail. Aprox. 1.5 miles of trail is currently flagged and ready for clearing. FORC will have some tools on hand for use but we urge those who have their own to bring them in case we run out.

    Tuesday 4/19
    Tools To Bring:
    - Hand pruning saws, bow saws, loppers (things to cut small/medium brush and branches)
    - Pulaski, Rogue Hoe, Cutter Mattock, etc. (things to dig out stumps & roots)

    Friday 4/22
    Tools To Bring:
    - Pulaski, Rogue Hoe, Cutter Mattock, etc. (things to dig out stumps & roots)
    - Flat shovels

    Clothing to wear:
Long sleeves, pants, sturdy shoes with good tread, work gloves, and eye protection. We will be working in steep areas with thorny plants and possibly poison ivy. Plan accordingly.

    Other Items:
    -1 L of water.

More info about what to expect if this is your first work day.

Non FORC members are welcome but will need to sign a volunteer waiver for the Rock Island County Forest Preserve District (I'll have some on hand) before participating or you can download/print one from here.

Please RSVP by posting here so we know how much work to bite off.

the browns are in tonight, if this still occurs. Thinking of hitting the new Harrington's Pub in Port Byron for beer & food after.

Nervously watching the radar... If it's not raining too much at 5:30 we still plan on working. I'll post an update around 4 to make the call.

FORC volunteers clearing trail corridor at Dorrance.

We had a great turnout last night with 14 people and 34 work hours! Thanks for coming out to help us kick off a new trail system. Clearing progress was so good that we will start constructing the actual trail Friday. Bring your benching tools (rogue hoes & flat shovels) and muscles. I'll have a few extra as always. Meeting and working in the same area as Tuesday.

Also, created a gallery where I'll be posting images of progress on this project: Dorrance Trailbuilding A few more photos from last night are in there.
