Default Tips for Riding the New South Loop Wood Berms

After witnessing some hairy moments on the new berm during the race it seemed like a good idea to post some tips on how to ride it. These berms don't ride like those at Sunderbruch because of the curved decking. You can't ride higher on the bank willy nilly unless you have the required speed. Physics says so. If you try to ride high without enough speed the front tire will loose traction and you will go down; possibly going over the top of the berm. Not a good outcome. The key is to lean into the bank so the tires stay perpendicular to the surface of the decking. Another key is to hold a consistent line height around the berm without bobbing and weaving around too much. If you are bobbing and weaving up and down the berm you are too high for your current speed. When entering the berm try to match the entry height appropriately with your speed and hold that line through the turn.

A good starting point is to follow the middle line of screws on the curved berm section which requires a 45deg. lean angle. This should be good up to 15-20 mph and suitable for most riders.

The only time you need to be anywhere near the top edge of the berm is if you are exceeding 30 mph.

Awesome Drew, thanks! I was wondering....looked like some near accidents based on riders' angles in some of the pics!

added note. walkers should prolly stay around the flat section. AVG walk speed 1.5-3.5MPH just want to cover all our bases =)
