Default New Year's Day 2015 Ride

New Year's Day is coming up and we always have a ride to start off the year correctly. Has their been any discussion about a New Year's Day ride? The forecast shows freezing temps between now and then. We could do an actual mountain bike ride at one of our parks (we won't be having temps above freezing between now and then, so the trails will be fine), or we could visit the FORC'n Enchanted Stomping Grounds. I'm leaning toward a stomp... Thinking 11 AM. Thoughts?

It's likely we'll see SBP remain closed all the way through the new year.

Even when temps are below freezing, but remain in the low to mid 20's the sun will still make a greasy mess of the top layer of trail usually by 10am. Definitely no good at 11am.

We need to have a serious freeze, and stay below freezing for a few consecutive weeks before SBP will open for use.

Let's start the year in the best way possible -- with a bike ride! Meet at Front Street Freighthouse at 11 AM on January 1st and plan to enjoy a few hours of stompin' goodness along the Mighty Mississipp! While a fat bike may be preferred, the ground will be solid thanks to several days of freezing temperatures, and a regular mtn bike will be just fine. Join us if you dare!

Dunno if ill be able to do that. I get about 1hr tops on my bike before elbow starts to really bother me. Being temps hoping something will be ok for a morning ride and doctor doesnt put my surgery for another week or 2 (which is pure hope) since temps gonna stay low.

How far is stomping from freighthouse?

IFP will be opening Tuesday morning (12/30) with the freeze/thaw clause in effect. Get your riding in before 10 am to avoid greasy conditions and keep the trails in good condition.

It's about 3/4 of a mile from FSFH to the point that we duck down into the stomping ground. You can choose an alternative parking spot at the boat launch on Marquette Street that is about 100 yards East of the stomping ground entrance.

Maybe we can fit in a "trial run" of the Frozen Fat Fondo route. CI Lodge is Fondo starting point, I'll meet you there at noonish or whenever you arrive. Should be 30 minute-or-so circuit. Bring Odouls.
