    Thumbs up Trail Day - Sunday, 02/12 @ 9am

    It's finally here!

The first trail day of 2012!

First, to bring everyone up to speed that wasn't able to make the meeting at Blue Iguana last night:
River Action granted QCFORC $5,000 for costs involved with construction of extending the Jubilee loop at Sunderbruch Park. Thank you RIVER ACTION!!!

If you've been attending the last few months of meetings, you've heard me talk about this "Jubilee trail extension" as though it were some mythical heavenly trail that only the Gods have seen.

Well, we now can begin this project!

But wait...a trail day in FEBRUARY? WTF?!!?

Due to the length of this trail, we're gonna be putting in A TON of hours to bring the trail to full completion *AND* we actually have a deadline to complete the trail to get the 2nd half of the grant funds. So, we need to get started early.

Thankfully, there isn't any snow on the ground (sorry fat bikes) which is going to make things easy on us to get started.

Here's what we've gotta do Sunday:

    CLEAR THE CORRIDOR

Basically, clearing the path of deadfall, bushes, low hanging braches, etc. We will not be doing any dirt work at this point.

Pretty easy stuff. We'll need a few chainsaws, loppers, machetes (if you have one), and other brush clearing tools.

Make sure to wear boots or footwear with strong ankle support - we're working on a substantially steep sideslope. The high on Sunday is looking to be low-30's. A baselayer, a light layer on top, under a hoodie or jacket/windbreaker and you'll be plenty warm. Wool socks and maybe some long undies under jeans/cargos...you get the idea.

I'm hoping to see 10-12 of us show up and get this project underway.

    See you there!

If I wasn't at Rays- you know I'd be there. I'll have to make up for my time later!
While I don't know Fer Sure, this trail may be even longer than LT- its gonna be GOOD riding!!

Believe in yourself? Well sure, of course. But be aware that "believing in myself" has been the root cause of most of my injuries.

When is quittin time? We might not be able to make it there right at 9...

Also, whats the plan for parking? I doubt we'll all be able to park on the side of the road.

We usually don't work much past 2 hours.

It all depends on how peeps are feeling around 11-11:30 roughly. If we're going good, feeling good, and making lots of progress, we'll likely keep going a bit longer.

Nothing's really set in stone. Work at our pace and we'll quit when it feels right.

Nice thing is, we don't have a boss to tell us to keep working!

    Update on Trail Day:

Don't worry about parking. The gates will be open so we can park in the main lot. We have to close the gates while we're working, so plan on being there no later than 9:10-9:15.

If you show up after that, no worries...just park outside the gate and come on up. Walk the path all the way to the field, then just take a straight shot through the field and you'll pop out right at the Jubilee intersection.

According to the poll, we've got 5 peeps definitely coming (including myself) and 3 maybe's.

I'd love to see 10 or more of us out there. The more of us there the faster and easier the work is.

Here's a map roughly showing the route of the new trail:

    See ya Sunday morning!
