If you've been following local news, you know that a fire at Animal Aid Humane Society, Moline, on January 30 caused heavy damage to the building. It also resulted in the death of more than 10 cats, and almost 20 cats remain missing.

A no-kill shelter like this can always benefit from donations, but with their current situation, Animal Aid Humane Society has a much greater need for financial help. Because of the fire, the building needs to be rewired, which is not covered by insurance.

Here's where we come in. Some of us run and some of us bike. Some of us do both.

Let's meet at the bike path near Captain's Table in Moline on Saturday, March 3. At 12:30, we take off. Runners will head toward the Celebration Belle and turn around, covering a 5K distance. Cyclists will head to Hampton and turn around, covering just shy of 10 miles. If you want to do both, hit the bike first and then do your run.

There is no entry fee for this, just a donation of what you feel is appropriate. As such, there are no race bibs, timing chips, t-shirts, results, or anything else that you might expect at a race. We are doing this for the animals ... Your donations are greatly appreciated! Please remember that!

I've talked with the folks at Captain's Table and they can accommodate a crowd (if we get a crowd) if anyone wants beer or food after the race. I also assured them that we would not park in their lot. Please use any of the lots available, just don't park at Captain's Table.
