Massive shout out and thank you to Port Byron Tug Fest for their donation of $1000 to help build trails at Dorrance Park! For the past six years Tug Fest has donated a portion of event proceeds to an organization that is positively impacting the local community. FORC is thrilled to be this year's choice and will put this donation to good use purchasing tools and construction materials to make multi-use trails at Dorrance Park a reality. On the table for 2016 are two exciting new developments in QC trails.
FORC approached and was granted approval by the City of Geneseo to develop new trails at Geneseo Prairie Park late last year. 4 miles of trail is expected once the project is completed and work is slated to start soon.
FORC is also in talks with Rock Island County Forest Preserve District to develop 3 miles of new singletrack trail at Dorrance Forest Preserve in Port Byron, IL. Dirt moving is expected to commence Spring 2016.
Check out the info below if you want to learn more and get involved with these projects! We'll be needing plenty of help to make these trails a reality.

Also big thanks to everyone who came out the the tapping party and helped raise $547 for this project. And a final thanks and shout out to Healthy Habits for organizing the group ride to the event.

UPDATE: A few articles with details about yesterdays Park Board Meeting concerning the Sylvan Island bridge.
The city of Moline has deemed the bridge providing access to the Sylvan Island natural area and trail network structurally unsound and unsafe for public use. Gates have been erected blocking access to the island via the bridge. The trails on the island and the island itself will remain open to the public but will only be accessible by boat.
Who are the Friends of Off Road Cycling (or FORC for short)? We are a group of dedicated volunteers on a mission to improve local mountain biking opportunities by building new trail, maintaining existing trail, hosting MTB related educational events, and building the mountain bike community right here in the QC. If you'd like to be a part of this, become a member and let's get to work. Click here to find out more about what we do.
The next group ride will be at Sunderbruch Park on Monday 11/21 at 5:30pm. This will be a night ride so bring/charge your lights! Remember to park outside the main gates.
