  • Show Us Your FORC'n Photos!

FORC's 20th birthday is coming up next year and as part of the celebration we're compiling a video highlighting the last 20 FORC'n years. But, we need your help to make this happen and time is running out! Specifically, we need old photos, video, or other media that helps tell the FORC story. The deadline to submit content is December 1st so we have enough time to edit it together for its premiere at the 2017 Chili Cookoff and Membership Drive.

Click here for details on submitting media.

  • Attention John Deere Employees!

Get Enrolled in John Deere's Charitable Giving Programs

FORC is now eligible to receive donations from John Deere through their restructured giving program! If you're a Deere employee, all you have to do is sign up and log your volunteer hours or make a donation through the new system. It's easy and will significantly multiply your contribution!

    • Donate through the Employee Matching program and Deere will match it up to $1000 per year (eg. donate $1000 and FORC gets $2000, minimum donation of $50 required).
    • Log your volunteer hours for the Dollars for Doers program while helping at FORC trail work days or special events and earn $25/hr for FORC. Donations are capped at 40 hours ($1000) per individual each year.

Click here to get signed up.

Sign up for these programs and Deere will transfer funds generated by all participants to FORC each month as a single payment. This makes it easy for us to deal with and helps us continue building/maintaining trails and making the QC a better place to ride.

  • Dorrance Trail Work Days

New trail building progress at Dorrance Forest Preserve.

We're getting close to completing the first loop of trail at Dorrance! Help us get it done before winter rolls in by volunteering for a work day or two. We'll be out working this week on Saturday 11/19 @ 9:00am. Stop by and give us a hand. No experience necessary. Click the link for more details and updates from last week.

Meet in the inner parking lot near the bathrooms [map here]. Please RSVP if you can make it. Never built trail before? Check out these must know things before volunteering at a work day.

We're building this. You should come help!

  • Tugfest Steps Up and Donates $1000 for Dorrance Trails!

    Port Byron Tugfest

Massive shout out and thank you to Port Byron Tug Fest for their donation of $1000 to help build trails at Dorrance Park! For the past six years Tug Fest has donated a portion of event proceeds to an organization that is positively impacting the local community. FORC is thrilled to be this year's choice and will put this donation to good use purchasing tools and construction materials to make multi-use trails at Dorrance Park a reality. • New Trails Coming to QC

New trails coming to the QC area.

On the table for 2016 are two exciting new developments in QC trails. FORC approached and was granted approval by the City of Geneseo to develop new trails at Geneseo Prairie Park late last year. 4 miles of trail is expected once the project is completed and work is slated to start soon. FORC is also in talks with Rock Island County Forest Preserve District to develop 3 miles of new singletrack trail at Dorrance Forest Preserve in Port Byron, IL. Dirt moving is expected to commence Spring 2016.

Check out the info below if you want to learn more and get involved with these projects! We'll be needing plenty of help to make these trails a reality.

  • GPP Tapping Party Recap

Geneseo Prairie Park Trail Benefit and Tapping Party at Geneseo Brewing Company

Also big thanks to everyone who came out the the tapping party and helped raise $547 for this project. And a final thanks and shout out to Healthy Habits for organizing the group ride to the event.

Check out the info below if you want to learn more and get involved with the GPP trails! We'll need plenty of help to make them a reality.

  • Illiniwek Signage Update

You may have noticed new signage popping up on the Illiniwek trails over the last few months. These signs outline a directional travel plan and are to minimize surprise encounters between users which may lead to collisions. Cyclists and pedestrians should travel in the same direction to minimize these surprise encounters and maximize enjoyment.

The upper loops are signed as follows:
    • ĚPink Blazes - Counter Clockwise (CCW) on Mon., Wed., Fri., and Sun.
    • Blue Blazes - Clockwise (CW) on Tues., Thurs., and Sat.

The climb/descent trails have all been labelled for one way travel.

Check out the updated trail map to see the complete picture.

  • Sylvan Island Bridge Closure

Update (3/10/15): Project delayed until 2017 for IL DNR endangered mussel survey. Survey may start in August.

Update (10/7/14): Moline approves funding for phase 1 of bridge construction: environmental study. The study is estimated to take 6-9 months.

Update (4/12/14): Moline has secured $1.14M for construction of a new bridge at Sylvan Island. More details here.

Update (9/10/13): Missman Inc. Structural Assessment of Sylvan Island Bridge (PDF 5.1 MB)

UPDATE: A few articles with details about yesterdays Park Board Meeting concerning the Sylvan Island bridge.

The city of Moline has deemed the bridge providing access to the Sylvan Island natural area and trail network structurally unsound and unsafe for public use. Gates have been erected blocking access to the island via the bridge. The trails on the island and the island itself will remain open to the public but will only be accessible by boat.
