We're building this. You should come help!

Click the image above to see more renderings of the bridge.

Dirt moving has concluded for the season, but we're currently building a large glulam bridge that will complete the first trail loop. If you want to get involved, check out workday announcements and progress here. The next workday is scheduled or Saturday Feb. 18th @ 11:00 am. We'll be moving the beams into the ravine at Dorrance and getting ready to move them across the creek in the coming week.

Also, check out the info below if you want to learn more and get involved with the Dorrance trails project!

  • Night Riding

The days are getting shorter and weekday riding opportunities are fading. Below are the current policies of local parks regarding night riding and after dark trail closures.

    • Sunderbruch: Night riding is allowed at all hours. Park in the lot outside the main gates to avoid getting locked in!
    • Stephen's Park: Night riding is allowed. Park is open until 11pm.
    • Illiniwek: Night riding is not allowed unless officially recognized by the park. Subject to ticket/fine if caught. Trails open dawn to dusk.

    • Scott County Park: Night riding is not allowed. Subject to ticket/fine if caught. Trails open sunrise to sunset.

  • Tugfest Steps Up and Donates $1000 for Dorrance Trails!

    Port Byron Tugfest

Massive shout out and thank you to Port Byron Tug Fest for their donation of $1000 to help build trails at Dorrance Park! For the past six years Tug Fest has donated a portion of event proceeds to an organization that is positively impacting the local community. FORC is thrilled to be this year's choice and will put this donation to good use purchasing tools and construction materials to make multi-use trails at Dorrance Park a reality. Click here to learn more about the project.

  • New Trails Coming to QC

New trails coming to the QC area.

On the table for 2016 are two exciting new developments in QC trails. FORC approached and was granted approval by the City of Geneseo to develop new trails at Geneseo Prairie Park late last year. 4 miles of trail is expected once the project is completed and work is slated to start soon. FORC is also in talks with Rock Island County Forest Preserve District to develop 3 miles of new singletrack trail at Dorrance Forest Preserve in Port Byron, IL. Dirt moving is expected to commence Spring 2016.

Check out the info below if you want to learn more and get involved with these projects! We'll be needing plenty of help to make these trails a reality.

  • GPP Tapping Party Recap

Geneseo Prairie Park Trail Benefit and Tapping Party at Geneseo Brewing Company

Huge thanks to Geneseo Brewing Company for rolling out a new brew, the Prairie Park Pilsner, to benefit local trails! GBC will be donating $1 from each pint of Prairie Park Pilsner sold to benefit the Geneseo Prairie Park trails. You know what to do next. Also big thanks to everyone who came out the the tapping party and helped raise $547 for this project. And a final thanks and shout out to Healthy Habits for organizing the group ride to the event.

Check out the info below if you want to learn more and get involved with the GPP trails! We'll need plenty of help to make them a reality.

  • Illiniwek Signage Update

You may have noticed new signage popping up on the Illiniwek trails over the last few months. These signs outline a directional travel plan and are to minimize surprise encounters between users which may lead to collisions. Cyclists and pedestrians should travel in the same direction to minimize these surprise encounters and maximize enjoyment.

The upper loops are signed as follows:
    • ĚPink Blazes - Counter Clockwise (CCW) on Mon., Wed., Fri., and Sun.
    • Blue Blazes - Clockwise (CW) on Tues., Thurs., and Sat.

The climb/descent trails have all been labelled for one way travel.

Check out the updated trail map to see the complete picture.

  • Sylvan Island Bridge Closure

Update (3/10/15): Project delayed until 2017 for IL DNR endangered mussel survey. Survey may start in August.

Update (10/7/14): Moline approves funding for phase 1 of bridge construction: environmental study. The study is estimated to take 6-9 months.

Update (4/12/14): Moline has secured $1.14M for construction of a new bridge at Sylvan Island. More details here.

Update (9/10/13): Missman Inc. Structural Assessment of Sylvan Island Bridge (PDF 5.1 MB)

UPDATE: A few articles with details about yesterdays Park Board Meeting concerning the Sylvan Island bridge.

The city of Moline has deemed the bridge providing access to the Sylvan Island natural area and trail network structurally unsound and unsafe for public use. Gates have been erected blocking access to the island via the bridge. The trails on the island and the island itself will remain open to the public but will only be accessible by boat.
